News From the President
As your new president I would like to tell you a little about myself. I’m a member of Randolph County EHC. I live with my husband Jim, near Maynard. We have a daughter, son‑in‑law and six grandchildren in northern California [Forbestown], and a son and daughter‑in‑law in Fayetteville, Arkansas. We inherited a thirteen year old boy in June of 1987. He, his wife and children are stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. God willing he will return in November from spending a year in Mosul Iraq. I want to see AEHC grow and think that can happen with the introduction of project clubs. I will do my best to live by the budget you approved, but yet give back as much as possible, to the counties and clubs. Because you make us what we are! Working together we can have two great years ahead of us.
Membership Awards
The Ozark District received the AEHC membership award for adding the most new members within the past year. Marietta Gutierrez, AEHC Past President, presented Kay Sanders-Chick, Ozark District Director, a check for $75 to be used by the District. Van Buren County EHC was awarded a check for $50 for adding the most new members and having the largest percentage increase of any county in the District.
In the Delta District, Lee County received $25 for the greatest percentage increase, and Craighead County EHC received $25 for adding the most new members.
In the Ouachita District, Bradley County EHC received $25 for adding the most new members and Lafayette County EHC received $25 for having the greatest percentage increase in membership. Pictured to the left is three generations in EHC-a way to keep membership "Alive and Well"!
AEHC District Presidents Days
"Hats Off To Leadership" was the theme of the three district meetings
held in October. A total of 356 officers and guests attended the three
meetings. The Ozark District meeting was conducted at Clinton, Delta
District at Brinkley and the Ouachita District was in Arkadelphia.
There is a correction to the Corn Bag instructions that Marietta gave at the meetings. Put 7 1/2 inches, instead of 6 1/2 on the small covers. A new idea for expanding EHC membership was presented by AEHC District Directors the AEHC Project Club concept. This idea will be presented to the board of directors at the March 9, Extended Education Meeting at the CA Vines 4H Center. The board of directors will discuss the new concept.
The theme "Hats off to Leadership" proved to be an exciting theme as each county brought decorated hats to be used for door prizes at the end of the day. Three wooden gavels were provided by Mary Ann Shepherd, State President, to be used for door prizes as well. In addition, Each County President received a gold gavel lapel pin presented by the state organization. "The Flaming Spoons", an idea for a project EH club presented food tips at the Delta District meeting. Irene Wassel, Arkansas Democrat Gazette Food Editor, is the group leader. In a few days we will have available pictures from your district meetings that you may view. Please check back soon. AEHC Participates in State Fair Creative Arts Division
A number of EHC members participated in the state fair during October. Debbie Moreland, a past AEHC President is the Director of the Creative Arts division. Karen Kirkpatrick AEHC Member from Clark County, Calleen Cristi from Cleburne County, and Beth Wallace from Faulkner County won several of the top cooking awards. Betty Oliver's niece, Stephaney Evans won sweepstakes in the Tennessee Pride Sausage Cooking Contest and the Farm Bureau Rice Cooking Contest.
EHC Walks Across ArkansasEHC Club Members are again participating in "Walk Across Arkansas". The members began their eight week program on September 26. This program is another excellent way for members to emphasize the two year program focus of improving physical activity and health as we are getting new members. EHC Socks for Body WalkThanks to all the counties that brought socks to the President’s Days for the Body walk. These are used for children in kindergarten to fourth grade as they walk through the body walk. This will allow all children to tour the body walk. Thanks for your part in this worthwhile project. Looking AheadCounty and Club EHC Project Books are due December 1 to Betty F. Oliver's office, in the State Extension Headquarters. Remember you have worked very hard in your county, so why not receive recognition. Awards will be presented June 8 in Hot Springs during the Annual Meeting. Look in the handbook on pages F-3 to F-7 for details on submitting a project book. They may be submitted by a county or an individual club. AEHC Extended Education WorkshopMarch 8 and 9 is the date for the AEHC Extended Education Workshop. Counties may choose to spend the night at the 4H Center, others will come for the day on March 9. Registration information will be sent to the FCS Agents after January 1, 2005. The focus of the workshop will be the selection of a new 2 year AEHC emphasis. Ann Bowers, Vice President, is the chair for this workshop. AEHC State Meeting - June 7-9, 2005"Extension Homemakers Challenging Arkansas...and leading the way" is the theme of the state meeting for 2005. Already the sixteen member planning committee has conducted two meetings. Plans are to distribute the state meeting information packet at the March 9 Extended Education Workshop. AEHC Logo Pins and Officer DropsWe have logo pins and a good supply of officer drops that attach to the logo pin. The cost of the gold drops is $3.00 (You can also order an advisor drop for your FCS Agent). These may be ordered by contacting Betty Oliver by email or phone. Be sure to send payments to the State Treasurer, Sue Farris, 505 W. River St., Ozark, AR 72949-3127. committee. The nominating committee in each District will consist of the
retiring District Director as chair and two County Council Presidents in
the District.
