News from the State President
As we start a new year, let's take a look at the last half of last year. We
had very successful district meetings. Thanks to the District Leaders for all
their hard work and to Maureen Zoerner for her elegant "Tea Parties."
I have heard that these were the best ever and I would have to agree.
Please send in names for the talent show at the state meeting for this year.
I know we have some of the best talent in the state and they need to be seen
and enjoyed. Just send the names to Betty Oliver and let her know what the
talent is and we look forward to seeing you.

District President's
Days-Big Success!
"AEHC Wants You" was the theme for the four district President's
Days conducted during October. Maureen Zoerner, Past AEHC President and AEC
District Directors planned an outstanding program for all meetings. Janet Williamson,
Northeast District Director did a great job with the first meeting at Diaz
Baptist Church in Jackson County. Sixty attended the meeting, where Northeast
District issued a challenge to other districts for a membership drive. The
Northwest District had a record attendance of seventy and District Director
Marilyn Spence had outstanding decorations at 1st Methodist Church in Clarksville,
using the "Let's
Have a Tea Party" theme. Southeast District met at Phillip's Community College
in Stuttgart with fifty-two attending. It was evident in this meeting that
counties had new EHC members involved. Some excellent community service projects
were reported. Beverly Harlow did a wonderful job with lots of new leadership.
Martiel Womble, Southwest District Director, had it "all together" at
the Southwest District Meeting at the Garland County EHC Building - sixty-six
attended the meeting. Excellent reports were given by Council Presidents, and
Garland County 4-H'ers served a great meal to the group.
The concurrent learning sessions taught by Bob Reynolds and the State Communications
staff were excellent.
Some counties have sent news clippings and pictures showing the evidence of
implementation of great EHC publicity.
Door prizes of $25 annual meeting registrations were given at each meeting.

Arkansas EHC Makes
UAMS Neonatal Caps
Extension Homemakers are crocheting neonatal caps for the Neonatal Department
at UAMS. The caps have proven to be a great value in the treatment of the babies.

AEHC Spring Workshop-Camp
Creativity
Spring is just around the corner!! County EHC Presidents, Vice Presidents
and their FCS Agents are invited to CAMP CREATIVITY, at C.A. Vines 4-H Center,
March 11 & 12. Join us and learn just how exciting 'Camping' can be, and
what kind of camper you want to be. At Camp Creativity, you can make a new
friend, collect a new recipe and enjoy yourselves. And most of all, learn some
new leadership skills to use in EHC. Please plan for your county to be represented.
We will plan our major and minor state program emphasis at this meeting. The
emphasis will begin July 1 and continue through 2005. Plans are to have the
State EHC registration packets ready for this meeting. Information is coming
on details by email to FCS agents.

Walk Across Arkansas
Through a modest increase in daily activity, most Arkansans can improve their
health. Walk Across Arkansas is an Extension program that persuades and motivates
people of all ages to make that most important change... to get started. It is
a program that is simple, inexpensive, and safe. All you need is a team of
up to eight people and a desire to get moving.
Teams do not really walk or ride together, although they may if they want
to; teams simply pool their mileage each week to work towards the chosen destination
on a map posted in a convenient place for people to check. Other moderate exercise
activities, such as riding a bicycle, walking a treadmill, aerobics, water
aerobics, swimming, etc., are allowed. Contact your County Extension FCS agent
for more details.
This would be a great way for our Extension Homemaker Clubs to get some healthy
exercise while having a little friendly competition between counties or clubs.
It would be lots of fun!

2003 State Meeting Update
Plan to spend June 10, 11, and 12, 2003 with us in Hot Springs, for our 2003
State Meeting. This year's theme is "Every Home Counts" [EHC]. We are
asking each county to bring two novelty houses [bird, bee, etc.], decorated.
One is for the cultural arts and the second one is for a table centerpiece
and door prize. If your spouse will be attending, there is a plan being developed
to have a special tour and class with Janet Carson, for them, on Tuesday afternoon.
Each year there are requests for fair judging classes. This year the how-to-classes
will address that need, with six different classes. All attending these classes
will receive a fair judging book and a certificate. The committee members are
working hard to bring you classes that you can enjoy and also address today's
issues. For your Spring EH Council, why not plan a competitive activity with
the novelty houses? - They could be used for centerpieces and judged for the
best for bringing to state. Also, consider a talent search in your county to
bring to the state talent show in June.
