Encouraging
EHC Growth
Almost three hundred county leaders and agents participated in the
officer training meeting March 9th and 10th. Tuesday evening was
filled with fun and fellowship as well as a great program on “Managing
Arthritis”. Kris Elliott, FCS agent in Van Buren County and Tammy
Seefeld, FCS agent in Lawrence County did an outstanding job with this
program.
Thanks to Gayla Taylor, FCS agent in Clay County, for setting the
theme for the officer training with her presentation on “Having a well
rounded EH Club”. County officers were trained by the state officers
and each county received three copies of the revised “Volunteers on
the Move”. The “Volunteers on the Move” may be copied and used in
county officer training.
Dr. Lynn Russell, FCS State Leader, did a great job on the topic
“Handling Money in Clubs, Counties and State”. A resource booklet
entitled “Guidelines for County Financial Operations for Extension
Homemaker Councils, Clubs and Groups”, was given to each county in the
county packet.
Dr. Wallace Goddard, UACES Family Life Specialist gave a
challenging presentation on “Encouragement.”
Ashley County Council President, Dixie Coleman, shared with the
group their membership expansion plans: they hope to double the number
of clubs in the county.
County flags were given to all counties. The cost is $40.00 to be
paid to the state treasurer, Cindy Parker. Thanks to Cheryl Stewart
from Crawford County for her hard work making all the County flags.
Counties need to ad their logo. It can be done in any color and
design.
Concluding the officer training was a discussion on the State
Meeting. Each county received a county packet for registration.
Pauline Myrich and Loretta Johnston, past state presidents,
presented information on the 2006 NVON Meeting to be held in Hot
Springs. The NVON is the organization that replaced the National
Extension Homemakers Organization after National was dissolved.
AEHC
Annual Meeting-“Ensuring Heritage Continues”
The 2004 Annual Meeting will be conducted June 8th, 9th and 10th at
the Hot Springs Convention Center.
Last week we met with the Austin Hotel Management regarding rooms,
they have assured that your room confirmations will be e-mailed to the
FCS agent by the end of March. The Embassy has already confirmed those
staying there.
Counties should send registration forms to the State Office by May
3rd. FCS agents should check the registration forms carefully for
accuracy. All checks should be made to AEHC.
Please remember to complete your county flag and bring it to Horner
Hall. (Flag stands and poles will already be on the stage.)
Please check page 1, “Due Dates”, of the state meeting packet for
reminders of items each county should bring to the meeting.
FCS Agents and County Council Presidents
For the opening session of the state meeting, County Council
Presidents and the County FCS Agent will march in together and be
introduced. Designated seats will be assigned for these to sit.
Saturday March 27th (Saturday) – A History of the Arkansas Extension
Homemakers Council
Every County Council President and FCS Agent should have received
and invitation to this historic meeting about our organization.
The program begins with registration at 9:30 AM at the Old State
House Museum, next door to the Peabody Hotel, on Markham. The program
starts at 10:00 AM and should conclude by mid-afternoon. Refreshments
and lunch will be served. The registration is $20.00. Call Georganne
Sisco at 501-324-8641 to register by March 19th. You will be given
parking information when you register.
AEHC Week – May 3rd – 7th
All over Arkansas EH Club members can promote the program. This
week is an excellent time to do membership and awareness activities.
Some suggestions: use exhibits in banks and public buildings to show
your community service; bake some goodies and present to those people
who have helped you – your County Judge, Quorum Court Members,
business leaders; have an informational tea or coffee for prospective
members; organize an educational tour. All of these sound good – be
sure to invite and include your local newspaper, radio and television
to the events.
Plan now to promote EHC. After May 7th each FCS agent will be asked
to report on the weeks events.
Community Service Ideas
EHC Members across Arkansas take very serious our program
objectives: Education, Leadership, and Community Service. At the March
9 and 10 officer training, 1,281 baby blankets were presented to the
University of Arkansas Neonatal Nursery. Yell County members led the
way with 496 blankets. Sixty-five of those were made by a new club
called “W.Y.C.-Western Yell county club”. Baxter County presented 232
blankets – some were beautiful examples of quilting by Kay
Sanders-Chick, District Director.
Patterns were given at the officer training for small booties and
mittens that are needed at UAMS. The pattern also had a diagram for a
baby cap that can be knitted or crocheted for a head larger than the
small caps that were made for Dr. Kaiser’s project.
Children’s Hospital is currently in need of blankets of all sizes –
large and small.
Summer needs – June 1-30 will need teaching dolls. (until then,
they do not have storage space.) Large tote bags (bright colorful
fabrics, muslin fabric) 16-18” wide X 20-22” high with and 8” gusset
(the handle can vary) They also can use pillows of all sizes.
Where Do All Those Cards
Go
Do you ever wonder what happens to all those used greeting card
fronts that you so faithfully bring to the Extension office? The card
fronts are sent to St. Jude's Ranch for Children in Builder City,
Nevada. People from all over the world, including Cross County
Extension Homemakers, send their used card fronts. The children
precision cut the card fronts and glue them to pre-printed card stock.
The children receive fifteen cents per each card made, and the money
is divided between their savings and college fund, their cottage fund
for field trips, and to provide the kids with extra pocket money.
You can order the cards in packages of 10 cards/envelopes for a
suggested donation of $10.95. Send your request and donation to:
St. Jude's Ranch for Children
P. O. Box 60100
Boulder City, NV 89006-0100
